Reasons to Recycle Paper…

As part of our Recycling category we would like to share some reasons why it is so important for you to recycle paper. Just as much as we want you to save when printing and giving you the best tips available, we want you to be aware of other recycling strategies that will eventually save you time, energy, and the environment.

Reason # 1 – Ok this reason is actually divided into 5: 1 ton of paper saves = 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 2 barrels of oil, and 4,100 kilowatt-hours of electricity. Should I even continue?

Reason # 2 – If the above 5 major reasons where not enough let me give you another FYI - It is estimated that 95% of business information is still stored on paper. As a rule of thumb, a typical office generates about 1.5 pounds of waste paper per employee each workday. (Financial businesses generate more than two pounds.) That's roughly 350 pounds per employee a year—or a total of about 2.5 tons for a small, 15-person office. You can do the math based on your own company's size. Having a Recycling mind will decrease the business information storage using technology to store it, share it, etc.

Reason # 3- The US is one of the highest finished products consumers. We consume far more than we recycle. But it is not all bad news. Major companies have successfully implemented recycling.

Hewlett Packard diverted from landfill 78% in 1997, or approximately 91 million pounds, of solid waste. Most of this material was recycled, including 43 million pounds of paper -- an amount equivalent to more than 367,000 trees. HP also offers its own brand of recycled content office paper, containing 20% post-consumer recycled content. The company, along with other printer makers, has been adding features to products to help users reduce paper use, such as duplex printing.

So keep in mind the three R’s

If you are already doing it, Congrats! If not is not too late to start!!

Printing costs are also another reason to improve the management and distribution of your information. Loads of small companies have actually achieved the status of paperless office with the reduction of printers and restricting any use to a few within the workplace. It is now over to the legal fraternity, medical and corporate business to make the switch. It is not hard really, just remove the printers.
