Describing your Fuser/Maintenance Kit

Thousands of you faithful customers of Inkjetsuperstore received today our weekly email with tips and special discounts. Our tip today explained what a Fuser Kit or Maintenance Kit was and at the end we promised a detailed description of the parts that make them out. This post is to keep our promise! But do not worry if you have not received the email you can post a comment and I will send you the details. During the next days I will also post the entire article in our Ink and Toner Articles.

The fusing assembly is the component that bonds toner to paper through a combination of heat and pressure. The kit will vary depending on the printer and manufacturer, but usually includes the following:

Fuser - A fuser is the part of a laser printer that melts the toner onto the medium. It consists of a hot roller and a back-up roller. After toner is transferred onto the paper, the fuser applies heat and pressure to ensure that the toner stays on the paper permanently, which is why paper is warm when it comes out of a laser printer.

Transfer Roller - A transfer roller is used in an electro photographic printer. The transfer roller rotates in contact with a rotating photoconductive drum with a print medium traveling there between. The transfer roller has a metal shaft around which a rubber roller is formed.

Rubber roller - The rubber roller is sponge-like and electrically semiconductive. The rubber roller is covered with a resin tube which has a lower layer formed on the rubber roller and an upper layer formed on the lower layer. One of the upper and lower layers has a higher sealing effect than the other of the upper and lower layers, and the other of the upper and lower layers has a higher stability of electrical resistance than the one of the upper and lower layer.

Pick up rollers – They pick up from the paper input tray - Clips in the holder on the paper pickup shaft in the paper feeder assembly.

Paper fee/separation roller/pad - In any printer or fax machine that takes loose sheets of paper, a stationary pad across which the paper passes when it is being fed in, to introduce friction and help separate the top sheet of paper from the rest. The separator pad is commonly two or three inches wide and is placed in the middle of the paper path. It should be cleaned or replaced if the printer tends to pick up more than one sheet at a time.

Air Filters - Laser printers give hot and dry air off during function; typically exhaust contains paper dust, toner dust, chemicals and also often large concentrations of ozone. Many new laser printers have air filters and depending on the manufacturer your Fuser/Maintenance Kit will include them.

It might not seem very interesting now but I'm sure when you get that message “replace the Fuser Kit” or “Perform Printer Maintenance” you'll remember and come back.
