How to clean your Samsung CLP 300 Printer

Ask and ye shall receive… as per a request from one of our avid readers the following post is to shine some light into the dark outer sphere of laser printer cleaning. If you have a Samsung CLP 300 you’ll get some tips and if you don’t some of this advice can be used for any laser printer. But of course before we dive into some specific details I would like to remind you to specifically review your warranty in case you might void it by digging inside.

When you installed your Samsung CLP 300 Printer you added a new icon to your collection in your desktop called Dr. Printer, this program helps you solve any problem with your hardware and software.

After you have followed any and all the advice given by the doctor, you should also run the cleaning utility that most of the devices have built-in. If you don’t have a Samsung CLP 300 this is where you start! Print two or three test pages with black and with each color before another cleaning cycle and chances are that will be all you need to do.

Well if you are a clean nut and would like to venture inside the laser printer, the first thing to do is to make sure you turn off the device for a few hours. The fuser roller gets extremely hot and to avoid burning yourself accidentally of course, it is better to let it cool down, and as with any other electrical equipment being serviced unplug it.

In the next steps you’ll see that you need some supplies, make sure you have them available and ready before you start.
Step 1.- Put on a mask and latex gloves, toner is rather messy, I would also place newspaper under the printer and in areas around in case you accidentally drop the toner cartridge or bottle.
Step 2.- Open the printer and gently remove the toner cartridge. You’ll need a toner cloth to wipe it. Make sure you “activate” the toner cloth in order for it to pick up the toner particles, and you do so by slowly stretching the sides. The ideal is to place the cartridge on top of another activated cloth.
Step 3.- Using a toner vacuum cleaner, vacuum the printer’s internal compartment avoiding that the nozzle touches the internal surfaces. If your printer has fine wires exposed also be careful when using the vacuum or brushing them. If you happen to break one you need further technical support and it might get costly.
Step 4.- Dip a cotton swab into isopropyl alcohol and with that you can clean the fine wires. Be gentle, never apply pressure.
Step 5. After you have cleaned and vacuumed the printer leave it as is for a few minutes for all parts to dry and then reinsert the toner cartridge. Obviously close the printer, reconnect the power cord and it’s all ready to go.

Now as I had previously warned, review your warranty, call the manufacturer or a technician if you think that will be better for the printer. Not everybody has a toner vacuum at hand and please do not think your house vacuum will work. Happy Cleaning, 'till next week... enjoy the weekend.
