HP upgrades its Environmental Goals

One thing is to make music with HP Printers as we shared last Friday. (If you missed it watch it is worth seeing!) And another is to set ups goals that are music to the ears of Environment supporters. Either way both types of tunes are great to hear.

Recycling inkjet cartridges is a great way to help the environment. HP has sold more than 400 million inkjet cartridges with the “closed loop” HP inkjet cartridge recycling process, allowing recycled plastic from empty cartridges, returned through the Planet Partners program, to be used in the manufacture of new HP cartridges. HP products, particularly inkjet printers, now contain more recycled materials compared to units shipped two years ago.

According to HP, its business printers (ink and laser) use 50 percent less energy compared to the competition and that the HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier All-in-One delivers 50 percent lower cost per page and 50 percent less energy consumption. This year, all new inkjet printer models will also be qualified to have the Energy Star certification.

Take a look at HP Environmental Goals for 2010 and 2011

How are they going to accomplish it?

• By meeting or exceeding all applicable legal requirements;
• proactively reduce occupational injury and illness risks, and promote employee health and well-being;
• By aggressively pursue pollution prevention, energy conservation and waste reduction in our operations;
• By designing and manufacturing products to be safe to use and to minimize their environmental impact;
• By offering customers environmentally responsible end-of-life management services for HP products; and
• By requiring suppliers to conduct their operations in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
