• Your printer may have a built-in option for cleaning. If this is the case, let your printer do the job and clean itself. If you want to see if your printer has these options, you can go to Printers in your Start Menu and right-click your printer. This should display a box where you can pick Printing Preferences. Clicking on the Maintenance tab will show you what your printer can do.
- If your printer has the option for a deep cleaning, do that. It’s possible you will need to run the cleaning program more than once to get the print head thoroughly clean.
• You may need to manually make your printer run the Clean mode. You should check the user’s manual for instructions.
• If none of these resolve the problem, you can still clean the print head by hand. You take out your ink cartridges, use a cotton swab dipped in hot water or isopropyl alcohol, and rub it against the print head. Don’t let any alcohol get on any rubber gaskets.

Aaah, so that's why my papers have been coming out all smudgy lately? Well now I know what to do! I thought my printer was broken or something, so I have been printing (expensively) at the library. Well now I will go clean my printer heads and print at home again! Thanks!
