Truths and Lies About Inkjet Printer Cartridges

The following are some facts about inkjet printer cartridges and the real answer. You will be surprised to find out the truth. It is important to how an ink cartridge works. There are two kinds of inkjet systems, most manufacturers use the thermal inkjet system, and the other kind is Piezoelectric Inkjet system.

The thermal inkjet system holds the ink in partitions it could be one, two, or more depending on the type of printer. The ink is inside a reservoir along a heating element with a small metal plate or resistor. When you send the order to print the resistor heats up through a small current and the ink right next to it vaporizes into a very small air bubble and goes into the nozzle. Then the nozzle gets filled with bubbles they push a droplet out and it goes from the nozzle to the paper, and that is all done faster than it took you to read the explanation.

The piezoelectric system differs from the inkjet because it uses a piezoelectric crystal instead of the metal plate or resistor. At the moment the current is applied the crystal changes shape or size and that is the reason the droplet is forced out into the paper. To go in deeper, what makes the printing go smoothly depends only upon the ink. If the ink dries at the print head, the printing is hindered. The ink also works as a coolant for the resistor if you try to print when the ink is too low the heating elements of the cartridge burn out damaging the print head permanently.

* 1-Inkjet printer cartridges work with any printer, they are all the same. FALSE
Even though some cartridges have compatibility with similar printers they do not work with all inkjet printers. It is very important to know exactly the type of cartridge needed. Every cartridge has a number that identifies it.

* 2-There are three kinds of Inkjet Cartridges - TRUE
You have original (OEM) cartridges that are made by the printer manufacturer and compatible cartridges and remanufactured the last two are not made by the printer manufacturer but by third parties.

* 3-All Remanufactured cartridges are bad - FALSE
It is important to purchase ISO-9001 certified products. By having this certification you know they have been remanufactured by the highest standards and will not compromise your printer in any way.

* 4-Inkjet cartridges last longer than toner cartridges - FALSE
They are completely different printing systems and usually toner cartridges hold more toner powder than the amount of ink in an inkjet cartridge. Actually inkjet cartridges hold just a little over 10ml of ink. Now if you rarely use your inkjet printer and practice ink saving tips then they can last a bit longer.

* 5-Compatible cartridges are brand new cartridges - TRUE
Compatible inkjet cartridges are made by third party manufacturers but are brand new cartridges compatible with your type of printer. They work the same and print exactly the same amount of pages the only difference between the two is the price.

* 6-Adding water to the cartridge makes the ink last longer - FALSE
Warning that is a "Do not try this at home" kinda action. Adding water to the ink cartridge will only make produce substantial damage to the entire printing process. Do it yourself remanufacturing and ink filling kits do not replace parts that are worn down with regular use and can produce leaks.
