1) Black printing takes precedence. Color printing is more expensive by far and when you replace toner cartridges black is only one to purchase and color cartridges are usually three. Cyan, Magenta or Yellow toner cartridges to be exact. It is a good idea to get high yield black toner cartridges as well that cost a bit more up front but last longer for sure.

2) Draft printing mode - Usually printers are set up to print at the highest quality standard so make sure you change your settings to draft mode on most printing projects and high quality only for important papers. You can set up the printer twice in your PC one for draft and the other one for high quality so you don't have to be changing back and forth.

3) Change to smaller fonts and more one each page - Try to avoid printing unwanted text this tip is specially for web pages. If you are only printing a part of the web page try to add other things you need printed in the same page. If you are printing text using smaller fonts and grey scales are important to save toner.

4) Ask Yourself... Do I need to Print this? It might seem silly but sometimes we print before we think and once we printed we realize it could have the same effect if read on the screen in bigger fonts. Also it is important to review everything before printing to make sure there are no mistakes and thus saving on wasted paper and toner.

5) Use compatible and remanufactured toner cartridges - By using aftermarket alternative you spend sometimes up to half less than original toner and with what you would spend on one toner you can get two and thus print for a longer amount of time. Third party toner cartridges usually have the same yield per page than regular cartridges.
