Guest Post - Technological Fakes
Guest Post By Cartridge Express UK
The technological market is huge, there's so much money being made and even more to be made. But there are also a lot of problems within the technology industry, one of the main problems being fakes. There are cheap fakes of most technological products, from mobiles to tablets; fake products can cause companies to lose a lot of money.
One of the things we've seen a lot of lately working in the printer cartridge industry have been fake printer cartridges. There are a load of counterfeit cartridges in the market at the moment, they look like genuine HP, Brother and most other brands, but will vary in quality, and some will even be re-manufactured second hand cartridges disguised to look like original cartridges.
Most manufacturers have wised up to these fakes now and have started to use a number of methods to prevent counterfeits. HP provide information to assist customer to identify genuine cartridges and they also investigate suspected counterfeit activities like some kind of super cartridge police that burst into the evil fake cartridge factories and push over huge vats of ink and then drive away in their Lamborghini’s leaving a trail of fire.
But in all seriousness HP have conducted nearly 5000 investigations in the last 4 years and nearly 4000 resulted in enforcement actions such as raids and seizures.
How can you tell if your cartridges are counterfeit?
One thing to note is the difference between re-manufactured cartridges and counterfeit cartridges.
Re-manufactured or re-filled printer cartridges are just that, second hand cartridges that are re-filled. These types of cartridges are a great way to save money and are not to be confused with counterfeit cartridges.
So be wary when buying your cartridges online, and any technological products. If you've had any experiences with counterfeit tech then let us know in the comments.

How can you tell if your cartridges are counterfeit?
- Original cartridges will always be delivered new, your cartridge shouldn't really have any scratches, signs of tampering and all labels should be intact.
- Most manufacturers now include authenticity seals on most their toner cartridge boxes, so this can be a clear sign.
- Your printer cartridges should be good quality, if not then they could be fake.
- Some counterfeit products will have poor quality or unfamiliar packaging, will leak or will have toner/ink already on them.
