Cartridge Free Printing is Possible with the Xerox ColorQube 8870 Solid Ink Printer

The latest addition to cartridge free printing from Xerox is the ColorQube 8870 Solid Ink printer. We’ve gathered a few opinions from different reviews so you can choose for yourself. Personally the environmental friendly printing gets an A on our list and though a big pricey upfront the price per printing page will pay for it in a jiffy.
Before we get to the review part it is important to know that the replacement ink sticks for this printer are available at Inkjetsuperstore. The direct links for purchase are the following:

The solid ink technology in Xerox's ColorQube printers offers an interesting alternative to standard color lasers. Printing costs are low; the 8870DN delivers a full-color page for 2.3p, around half the cost of most lasers. Solid ink is also a lot cleaner than laser toner and has a lower environmental impact as there are no messy cartridges to be disposed of. The technology melts blocks of resin into reservoirs and then squirts them onto a rotating drum using inkjet-style print heads. The image is pressed onto the paper in one pass, where it solidifies almost instantly. Some of the resin bonds with the paper fibers and, as the remainder stands proud of the paper, the final image has a gloss and a slight texture. The resin blocks are placed in slots under the top panel, and more can be added even during printing.

PCMag.com Review
Based even on the minimum 6.6-cent savings per page, if you print just 1,100 color pages a month—about 250 per week—for three years, the savings in running costs will cover the entire initial cost of the printer. Even better, you'll save money on monochrome pages too. Most color laser printers claim a cost for monochrome printing of 2.2 to 4.5 cents per page, for a 0.3- to 2.6-cent-per-page savings. All this makes the 8870DN of particular interest to small to medium size offices and workgroups with relatively heavy-duty color printing needs.
