Customer Service Tip of the Week - How to Reset an HP Ink Cartridge

HP Printers should be able to read the amount of ink left inside your HP ink cartridge. They are built to tell you when you should be inserting replacing cartridges. When the ink level drops down to almost nothing a warning alert shows saying “Low Ink” it might even show in the printer screen as well depending on the printer model.

Sometimes there is more ink inside to print quite a few more pages so you need to reset the ink level. Sometimes the printer doesn’t read remanufactured HP ink cartridges or compatible HP cartridges so the trick works for them as well.

All you need to do is look at the back of your HP ink cartridge where you’ll find several different colored holes. Once you found them put some clear scotch tape over the blue colored contact holes. Now reinsert the cartridge in the printer. You might get the error message again but close the window and try to print again. Print a test page. Now remove the ink cartridge from the printer and take the tape off. Now put the piece of tape over the red contacts and insert back into the printer and print a page. One more time take the cartridge out and remove all the tape once and for all. Place the cartridge and you’ll be able to see the reset ink level printed out.

This tip is important as we said before when using aftermarket printer ink. Now that we are talking about such cartridges let us remind you that at InkjetSuperstore we offer both types. It is important to know the difference between the two so here you have their definition.

Remanufactured Cartridges:
Remanufactured cartridges are original cartridges which have been used and returned, factory cleaned, refilled to max capacity then tested for reliability. The remanufacturing process checks for the integrity of the cartridge housing as well as integrated nozzle, electronics circuits, replace drum, then filled with exacting ink or toner formulations. All remanufactured cartridges are thoroughly tested after assembly to ensure it meets or exceeds OEM standards. Remanufactured cartridges allows you to take a green stand towards environmental saving practices and helps you keep OEM cartridges from thousands of years of waiting to disintegrate in wastelands.

Compatible Cartridges:
Compatible cartridges are made by third-party manufacturer other than the original printer manufacturer and are compatible to the printer needs. These compatible cartridges meet or exceed OEM specifications 100% and are brand new; they yield excellent output and allow for big savings over OEM printer ink, inkjet cartridges or laser toner cartridges.
