Kodak launched its Email Print Service an Insight Look

For a few weeks now Kodak has made available to users the possibility to email their print jobs to their Kodak printer. Distant printing options are not new to the industry, HP was the innovator but it is very welcomed by Kodak printer users. The Kodak Email Print Service as it is called enables to send documents or photos from laptops, smartphones or even tablets to the printer so it can take care of the printing. The service also provides a quick solution to Kodak ink cartridge replacement problems but we’ll get to that in a minute.

So let’s make this easy to understand to common folk like me and you. Basically Kodak prepared a Tag system that essentially stores information and allows communication with the printer from afar. A registration to the print service is done and then scans the Tag on kodakeprint.com for the printer’s email address. The Tag then takes care of the communication so your documents or photos taken with a mobile device can quickly and easily be printed even if you are not there.

The Tag goes further and after including it on your smartphone you will be able to read all printer packaging and in-store displays that have Tags as well. Shoppers will be taken to micro-sites after scanning the Tag with more info about the product, so they can see the functionality. The information includes video explanations of the main features and best reasons to buy.

Going back to the Kodak inkjet cartridge issue, this Tag helps people that never remember a cartridge number or ink type. The information is loaded to the smartphone contacts with quick links to learn more about Kodak inks and ways to get refills straight from Kodak on the mobile device.

Kodak has a mobile app called Pic Flick to help users print their mobile photos wirelessly. Tag helps here scanning the app and easily download it and install. I am sure there will be more innovative ways of using Tags coming up so this post will remain open and revised when found as the weeks go by.

In conclusion then…Congratulations to Kodak and their new service! To me they are telling their printer users… We provided the Tag… you are it!!
